Nebraska Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that each state put a method in place for informing the general public when a sexual offender is located in their community.
Megan was merely seven years old when a repeat sexual predator that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was agreed that if her family or other community members had been aware that a convicted sexual offender was living in their neighborhood, this heinous act could've been prevented. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Since the law has been put into effect, Nebraska has made it a point to protect its offering the most recent information relating to convicted sexual offenders and their current residency. The law has confirmed that while sexual offenses are still a danger in this country, acts committed by previous offenders are on a regression.
The data accesible through the enactment of Megan's Law has proven to be a critical benefit in keeping one's family safe from the dangers of sexual misconduct.
